Matthew Perry makes a quiet move away from the Bird Streets
Matthew Perry, who last year made a big splash in the Century City condo market, has quietly decamped from his sleek perch in the Bird Streets. The actor of “Friends†fame has sold his home in the Hollywood Hills West neighborhood known for its bird-named streets in an off-market deal for $12.5 million.
Entered through a gated courtyard, the 1962-built house has been extensively updated with American walnut and terrazzo floors, Makassar ebony built-ins and Gaggenau appliances. A custom home theater is below ground and has velvet seats and 2-inch-thick windows that look into the depths of the infinity-edge swimming pool.
The 3,821 square feet of living space holds a living room with a fireplace, a chef’s kitchen, three bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. The master suite has a sliding wall of glass that leads directly to the grounds.
Fire features and reflecting pools were added to enhance the outdoor living space, which includes a covered patio and pool deck.
The home originally came to market last summer at $13.5 million. It had been listed with Greg Holcomb and Cassandra Petersen of Pacific Union International prior to exiting the market in October.
Last year Perry moved on to Century City, paying $20 million for a full-floor penthouse unit at the Century building.
Known for his role as Chandler Bing on “Friends,†the 48-year-old actor has branched out into other mediums in recent years. In 2016, he made his playwriting debut with “The End of Longing,†which he also starred in.
More recently he appeared as Ted Kennedy in the television miniseries “The Kennedys: Decline and Fall†(2017).
Actress’ home hits a modern octave
Actress-singer Jayma Mays and her husband, actor Adam Campbell, have listed their home in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles for sale at $2.795 million.
The two-story home, originally built in 1925 and expanded through the years, underwent a modern makeover by New York-based Jacobschang Architecture during the couple’s ownership.
The result was a complete interior renovation and an addition that included a new second-story master suite. A bridge-like walkway connects the master suite to the main house while providing access to a rooftop deck. The outdoor living space was doubled through new balconies, private decks and a courtyard.
The main floor is largely devoted to open-plan space and includes a sunlit living room, a chef’s kitchen with a long center island, and a dining and family room area. There are four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms plus an office/media room.
Fleetwood sliding doors open to a patio anchored by a mature avocado tree. A saltwater swimming pool, a lounge area and planters fill the fenced and bamboo-hedged backyard.
Mays, 38, is known for her television roles on “Glee,†“Ugly Betty†and “The Millers.†She currently appears on the sitcom “Trial & Error†and has a voice role on the animated series “The Adventures of Puss in Boots.â€
Campbell, 37, has a major role on the sitcom “Great News,†which in January wrapped up its second season.
Patricia Ruben of Sotheby’s International Realty holds the listing.
House of Usher is full of color
Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Usher is ready to beat it out of Hollywood Hills West, listing his home above the Sunset Strip for sale at $4.2 million.
The Spanish-style home, built in 1926, has been updated with colorful and contemporary details while maintaining some of its original vibe. The two-story entry is awash in black and leads to a living room with a rebuilt fireplace and original stenciled beams. Arched doors open to Juliet balconies overlooking a front patio.
Also within more than 4,200 square feet of interiors are a home theater, a purple-clad dining room, five bedrooms and 4.75 bathrooms. The updated chef’s kitchen features a marble-ribboned backsplash, stainless-steel appliances and a breakfast area with a built-in banquet.
Decking and terrace patios create additional living space outdoors.
Usher, 39, gained fame in the 1990s with the record “My Way.†More recently, he released his eighth studio album, “Hard II Love.†Among his scores of hits are “Nice & Slow†and “U Remind Me.â€
He bought the house three years ago for about $3.37 million, records show. Anna Marie Simpliciano of Hilton & Hyland holds the listing.
One last deal for game show host
The longtime Beverly Hills home of “Let’s Make a Deal†game show host Monty Hall and his wife, producer Marilyn Hall, has sold for $6.409 million, or $10,000 over the asking price.
Built in the 1920s, the classic Mediterranean house hit the market in early February and was in escrow after about a week on the market. It had been the Hall family home for 55 years.
The two-story house has nearly 3,900 square feet of living space that includes a step-down living room, a formal dining room and a great room. The master suite has two bathrooms and a private terrace that overlooks lush landscaping and a swimming pool in the backyard.
There are four bedrooms and five bathrooms plus detached guest quarters.
Monty Hall, who died last year at 96, was the co-creator and face of the popular game show, which started in 1963. He produced and appeared on scores of other shows including “Love, American Style,†“That ‘70s Show†and “That Girl.â€
Marilyn Hall, who also died last year, at 90, was an actress, author, songwriter and Emmy-winning producer. Among her credits was the television movies “A Woman Called Golda†(1982) and “Do You Remember Love?†(1985).
Wayne Saks of Rodeo Realty was the listing agent and also represented the buyers.
Newly retired and ready to punt
For those already missing Ed Hochuli’s massive arms and lengthy penalty explanations after his recent retirement announcement, the former NFL referee has jumped in another game: real estate. He’s listed a pair of condominiums in San Diego for sale.
Found within a contemporary beachfront complex on Mission Beach, the condos are being sold separately with the potential for a combined purchase, according to listing details.
The upper unit, listed for $2.695 million, offers 1,750 square feet of living space, wall-to-wall windows and sweeping views of the ocean. The main level is an open floor plan that holds an updated kitchen, a dining area and a living room with a fireplace.
Sliding glass doors in the master suite open to one of two private patios. The condo has three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms.
The lower unit, listed for $2.395 million, has three bedrooms, three bathrooms and nearly 1,400 square feet of interiors. There are ocean views from the kitchen/living room area and the master bedroom. A ground-level patio faces the beach and boardwalk.
Traci Stevens of San Diego Realty Consultants is the listing agent for both properties.
