Skrillex lands a $6-million spot in Malibu where he can break ground
Skrillex, the Grammy-winning electronic music artist and DJ, has spent $6 million on a new spot in Malibu — and by spot, we mean a vacant lot.
That’s the high cost of living in Westside areas such as Malibu, particularly when it comes to sizable estates in upscale communities. The roughly 1.1-acre plot is behind gates in an 80-acre, luxury planned development, where finished home prices often exceed $15 million.
Skrillex’s plot is among 13 properties that occupy an oceanfront bluff with unobstructed views of the Pacific. The lot includes approved plans for a flat-roofed, Doug Burdge-designed modern residence of more than 12,000 square feet.
The planned centerpiece of the estate, a 160-foot infinity-edge swimming pool, will stretch nearly the length of the grounds, which includes more than 200 feet of frontage.
The lot was most recently listed for sale at $7 million or completed at $18.9 million, records show.
The 28-year-old Skrillex, whose legal name is Sonny Moore, has won eight Grammys, including awards for the extended-play records “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites†and “Bangarang.†His debut album as part of the DJ duo Jack Ü, with fellow artist Diplo, was released last year and also garnered a pair of Grammy Awards.
