The Slammer, Las Vegas home of magician Penn Jillette, sells for $1.88 million
The Las Vegas home of entertainer Penn Jillette, known as the talkative half of the Penn & Teller magic duo, has sold for $1.88 million.
Nicknamed ‘The Slammer,’ the colorful compound on about nine acres was originally built in 1982 and later expanded by Jillette during his two-plus decades of ownership. “It’s the house of a 12-year-old with a lot of money,†Jillette said of the compound, which features a mix of bright neon hues and multicolored grass, in a 2004 interview with USA Today.
Surrounded by concrete walls, the fantastical property also has a 14-seat movie theater, a recording studio, seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms in more than 7,900 square feet of living space. Cheetah print carpeting and brightly colored walls are among the interior details.
Outdoors, a large clock tower looms above the lap swimming pool and spa. A rooftop balcony takes in a view of the Las Vegas skyline.
Jillette may be the last to enjoy those views, at least for a while. In August, he told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that he was “going to shoot a horror movie†on the property and that the home would be demolished in “a final, chaotic scene.â€
The property was listed outside the Multiple Listing Service by Zar Zanganeh of Luxe Estates & Lifestyles. Zanganeh also represented the buyer, developer Larry Canarelli, according to the Review-Journal.
Jillette, 61, is an author, actor, comedian and magician. He has performed with Raymond Teller as Penn & Teller since the late 1970s, and they cohosted a series on Showtimeâ€
