Burger King launches low-fat French fries
Burger King has launched a low-fat, crinkle-cut French fry to appeal to health-conscious consumers, the second-largest burger chain announced Tuesday.
Dubbed “Satisfries,†the new fries are taking aim at the fried spuds from rival McDonald’s. Burger King Worldwide Inc. said the new fries have 40% less fat and 30% fewer calories than McDonald’s fries.
The new product has largely the same ingredients as Burger King’s typical fries, but has a more porous batter that keeps out more oil during cooking.
“One out of every two Burger King guests orders our classic French fries and we know our guests are hungry for options that are better for them, but don’t want to compromise on taste,†said Alex Macedo, North America president for Burger King.
A value-sized order of the Satisfries contains 190 calories, 8 grams of fat and 210 mg of sodium, the company said.
The fast-food giant has introduced a number of new items to its menu this year, including a French fry burger, which is exactly what the name implies: A hamburger with French fries as a topping.
On Tuesday, Burger King shares were up 5 cents, or 0.25%, trading at $19.85.
