Amazon knocks $50 off 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD for college students
Amazon.com wasted no time putting one of its Kindle tablets on sale to kick off the new year.
The Seattle-based online retailer started a monthlong sale on New Year’s Day that takes $50 off the 8.9-inch version of its Kindle Fire HD tablet. The reduced price, however, is only available to Amazon Student members who have an Amazon Prime account, which costs $39 for the full year for those who have an “.edu†student email address.
The sale applies to both the Wi-Fi version of the large-size tablet as well as its 4G LTE variant.

With the discount, the cheapest model, the 16 GB Wi-Fi only version, costs $249. That’s the same prize as the 7-inch version of the 32 GB Kindle Fire HD.
The 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD features a 1,920-by-1,200-pixel resolution HD screen as well as dual speakers. It also features a front-facing HD camera and a Micro-HDMI port.
